Backing up an RV can be a daunting task, but with a little practice, it can be easy! The key is to take your time and be careful. Here are some tips to help you back up your RV like a pro. If you have got any questions or need help with maintenance or repairs for your camper, feel free to get in touch with us at Zabukovic RV.

Getting Started

As you’re preparing to back up your RV, make sure you have enough room to maneuver safely. Double-check that there are no people, vehicles, or obstacles close to your sides and that there isn’t heavy traffic. Set your tow vehicle’s side mirrors so you can clearly see the sides of your camper and what’s behind it. Turn on your hazard lights to let other drivers know to give you some space.

Go Slow

When you’re backing up an RV, remember that its rear end will move in the opposite direction of your tow vehicle. For example, when you turn left, your camper will back up rightwards. You’ll want to take it slow and easy to stay in control of your RV and back it up accurately into the parking spot.

Use your mirrors and anyone guiding you to line up nicely and make adjustments whenever necessary. Avoid making a sharp turn as this can lead to jackknifing. If you oversteer, stop immediately and slowly move forward until you’ve corrected your direction and then try again.

Get Some Practice

Backing up an RV takes some practice and patience, so don't be discouraged if it doesn't go perfectly the first time. Find an empty parking lot and spend some time practicing. You'll get the hang of it in no time!
